So I did it! I went out a bought my first fountain pen!1 Bought it from Artlite here in Atlanta, GA. It's located in the Linberg Shopping Plaza with Home depot, Linen n things. Better call and get directions first (404) 875-7271. It's confusing to get to if you've never been. It's a great writer's dream store. Wall to wall of pens and notebooks! And if you want a fountain pen-these things are kind of hard to order by mail because it's a matter of preference-this is the place to be. (Ask for Steve)
I bought a Sailor 1911 series (pictured above) Mine is yellow. It's not the color I would chose for myself but Artlite had a 50% discount on it because the box that the pen came in was damaged.
I have to say this pen writes like a dream! You barely have to press down on it and ink appears. And talk about smooth writing. It's like writing on air. Such a pleasure to use!! And depending on the pressure you apply you can control the thickness of your strokes. You can use a converter or a cartridge. I chose the latter. Still intimidated by a converter though the ink last longer. The nib is so flexible being 21K gold.
I had the opportunity to test many pens at Artlite and I have to say gold nibs are the way to go if you can afford it. The steel nibs were to harsh for me. It was like scraping your pen on a brick surface.
Now I'm dreaming about this Sailor Fountain pen....

Naginata-togiThe shape of a Naginata-togi nib is rather long compared with other pen nibs. The pen point is ground into a shape similar to the blade of a Naginata sword. This unique pen nib allows a broad range of writing angles and provides smooth calligraphy even when writing with light pressure
